TCS

Train Control Systems (TCS) are a USA based DCC command station, decoder and accessory decoder manufacturer.


Thermal mass

Thermal mass is the ability of a material to absorb, store and release heat.


Throttle

A throttle is usually a handheld device used in a Digital Command and Control (DCC) system to control locomotives and other accessory items. It may also be a mobile phone or tablet.


Tinning

Tinning in soldering is the process of coating a metal surface, typically a wire or a soldering iron tip, with a thin layer of solder.


Tip

The bit or tip of a soldering iron is the working end of the soldering iron, it is in contact with the solder and workpiece and is used for transferring heat from the soldering iron to the workpiece.

The term TIP is also used when discussing screwdrivers, it is the part of the screwdriver that engages with the screw head.


Toe

The "toe" of a turnout (or point) refers to the end where the turnout diverges. It's located at the opposite end from the "heel" of the turnout, which is the place where the blade (movable rail) of the turnout touches the fixed stock rail.


Track circuit

An electric circuit made in a section of railway track using left and right rails as conductive poles, able to be completed by the presence of a train or conductive wheel set. In model railways, this is often a separate power district.

Train

A train consists of a number of items of rolling-stock, (which could be carriages or wagons) powered by a locomotive.


Transistor

A transistor is a semiconductor device that controls current or voltage flow in addition to amplifying and generating these electrical signals and acting as a switch/gate for them.


Trix

Trix is a German company, the company began producing model trains in 1935, and were taken over in 1997 by Märklin
