Semiconductor

A solid substance (Usually, in electronics, silicon) that has a conductivity between that of an insulator and that of most metals, either due to the addition of an impurity or because of temperature effects. Devices made of semiconductors, such as diodes and transistors, are essential components of most electronic circuits.

Service mode

Service mode is a DCC programming mode using a program track. It is a broadcast method of accessing CVs and does not request an address. For this reason, it may program multiple decoders simultaneously.

Servo

An electrical motor which can be precisely positioned by a servo controller.

Sinewave

Is a symmetrical waveform that oscillates (moves up, down, or side-to-side) It is an s-shaped, smooth wave that oscillates above and below zero

Sinusoidal

Sinusoidal relates to being shaped like, or varying according to a sine curve or sine wave.

Soft soldering

This refers to the type of soldering performed using a tin-lead or tin alloy solder. The process takes place at below 370°C.

Solder

A low-melting metal alloy, especially one based on lead and tin.
