Mains

It is the electrical power that is delivered to homes and businesses through the electrical grid and made available through wall sockets. It is normally 220Vac or 110Vac.

Matrix

A matrix is an arrangement of numbers or devices into a series, of rows and columns.


Microcontroller

A microcontroller unit (MCU) is a small computer located on a single chip. It is designed to operate within a system without requiring an operating system.


Microfarad

A Micro farad (µF) is a measure of stored charge and is one millionth of a farad. Many capacitors are measured in micro-farads, as a farad is a large amount of charge in many circuits.


Mimic panel

A panel simulating the layout, showing turnouts, signals, turntable etc. Small indicator lamps display the selected state of the device.

Mobile decoder

Is a decoder that is designed to be installed into a moving item of rolling-stock. It can be of any of the decoder types, but is usually a locomotive or function decoder.


MOROP

MOROP is an abbreviation for the Organisation of Model Railroaders and Railway Friends of Europe. They are one of the bodies along with the NMRA, who are responsible for setting standards within model railways and DCC.


Motor

A machine that converts electrical energy into rotational mechanical energy. A motor can be either AC or DC powered.


Multimeter

A test instrument for the measurement of electric current, voltage, and resistance, over several value ranges.
