Hard soldering

A higher temperature process than soft-soldering, the solder usually contains copper; and melts at a relatively high temperature (above 450 °C); also known as brazing.


Headshunt

Is a short length of track provided to release locomotives at terminal platforms, or to allow shunting to take place clear of main lines.


Heat Shunt

A device that has good heat-dissipation, used to conduct heat away from the soldered component(s).


Heat-shunt

A device (which may resemble, or even be, a crocodile clip)  that has good heat-dissipation characteristics and is used to conduct heat away from an article being soldered.


Heel

The "heel" of a turnout (or point) refers to the end where the blade (movable rail) of the turnout touches the fixed stock rail. It's located at the opposite end from the "toe" of the turnout, which is the place where the turnout diverges.


Hertz

A unit of frequency, which is equal to one complete cycle per second.


Hexadecimal

Hexadecimal is a numbering system that uses sixteen as the base. Its digits are 0 - F, A-F is used for the additional 6 digits.


hFE

hFE is the forward current gain in a bipolar junction transistor. It is a quantity used to state efficiency of a transistor in current amplification.
