Glossary of terms

A UK based manufacture of model railway rolling stock and accessories.

Data can have multiple definitions depending on the context it is used in:

1. Data is a signal consisting of a sequence of discrete values represented by a change in voltage or frequency.
2. Data can also represent a set of values that is used as input or output.

A datagram are a complete message associated with a digital communication system. 

Direct current (DC) is electrical current which flows consistently in one direction. The current that flows in an appliance running on batteries is direct current.

Digital Command and Control.  Is a standard for a system for the digital operation of model railways that permits locomotives on the same electrical section of track to be independently controlled by a digital signal.

It is a generic term for electronic devices fitted to the layout or within an item of rolling-stock, which controls various elements depending on its type. Decoders usually fall under 3 categories: Mobile decoder, Function decoder and accessory decoder. A sound decoder may be considered a 4th category.

 A desoldering pump is used to remove solder from soldered connections. It is a vacuum cylinder that sucks molten solder from the work piece.

1. Is a decoder or other active item, but could include a mobile phone, tablet or PC.
2. An object which has a function.
